But do go on how it’s just a joke.
Did anyone who reblogged this even read the articles?
The first outright says multiple times that rape jokes don’t lead to rape.
The second one is a biased article based on the idea that rapists don’t know they are rapists. The word joke is not even in the article and if this feminist research is anything like Mary Koss’, I think the methods used to determine who is a rapist need to be examined in greater detail than a summary on what was done.
From the first:
the response[to jokes/humor] falls in one of three categories in the audience:
- CATEGORY 1: “HA! THAT’S SO TRUE!” (genuine laugh)
- CATEGORY 2: “I DIDN’T KNOW THAT, BUT SINCE MOST PEOPLE THINK IT’S FUNNY, IT MUST BE TRUE!” (genuine laugh, or feigned laugh to support genuine laugh of CATEGORY 1)
- CATEGORY 3: “WHAT THE F***? THAT’S NOT TRUE!” (no laugh, brain switches back on to serious mode)
Stop getting your sampling audience for testing thought processes from feminists. No normal person thinks like this.
You don’t hear “I wish a nigga would~!” And think “Well I guess a nigga would then if all these people are laughing.” If you don’t get it, you just don’t get it. Stop trying to turn something you don’t understand into stupid feminist science.
This is so stupid. We are on tumblr, the breeding ground for tales from the book of ‘that never happened’ and ‘that’s definitely not true’-example:
what girls say: we need to talk
what girls mean: SIED IHR DAS ESSEN NEIN WIR SIND DER JAGER
So, does hearing rape jokes lead people to rape? Well, that is difficult to assess, as it would require scientists to allow people to get raped (which is relatively unethical… depending on your predisposed attitudes towards rape).
This is a convoluted way of saying “No. Not that we can prove but we want to say yes.”
It was followed by:
- Increased blame attached to victims of rape
- Increased acceptance of desire to rape
- Decreased view of rape as a “serious” problem
- Decreased desire to punish rapists
Bullshit. The first link tried to study Freud(who feminists hate when he’s talking about women and sexuality any other time)’s 1905/1960’s theory on correlation by having men(and only men, BIG surprise) rate sexist jokes and then compare them to their beliefs about women.
The second link does the same thing but is a longer piece.
There were no tests that concluded appreciation of sexist jokes lead to any of those things.
There were tests done(on men only) that showed people who already had these views, appreciated these types of jokes.
To suggest that is equivalent to leading to those views is like saying people who believe in God tend to like theist related paraphernalia, thus, buying deity related items will make one more religious.
So, all the evidence point to rape jokes promoting rape culture.
Which, btw, is still about women. Specifically western white women. Not the men in prison who the term was coined for. The women outside the prison where rape is such a heinous act that men going into prison need to hide this fact (along with child molestation) or they may be killed or raped themselves. Outside there have been rapists hung from street signs(Mexico), mob lynchings, and of course the ever present fact that even a false allegation can have a man lose his job, his kids, and any other connections that were necessary for him to live comfortably. Hell, forget actual rape and false allegations. You can tell a joke that a feminist perceives as sexist and get fired from your job. Telling a dongle joke with your buddy behind a feminist? Not in this society you don’t. Nevermind the fact that she made a sexual joke with her friend within the same time frame, what you did, was unacceptable. How dare you make a joke that was even intended to be sexual near a feminist. Shame on you.
But we live in a rape culture. Right.
Even still, that only reflects people’s attitudes towards rape after hearing sexist jokes; it doesn’t mean that jokes lead to actionable violence
Again saying jokes don’t lead to rape. The attitudes bit debunked above. Oop.
Although there is no smoking gun that shows that rape jokes lead to rape, there is a wealth of evidence that indicates that predispositions towards rape are enhanced by hearing rape jokes (or jokes that normalize rape). And if a potential rapist uses a joke as justification for raping someone, shouldn’t that be good enough reason to not want to perform that joke anymore?
FOR THE LOVE OF BUDDAH YOU DID NOT EVEN WAIT UNTIL YOU STARTED ANOTHER PARAGRAPH BEFORE MAKING A HUGE FEMINISTLOGIC JUMP. YOU DID IT ONE SENTENCE AFTER THE OTHER!!
>there is no smoking gun that shows rape jokes lead to rape
>a potential rapist uses a joke as justification for raping someone
HOW. NOT AN ARTICLE OR FOUR LATER. NOT A FEW PARAGRAPHS DOWN. YOU LITERALLY FINISHED ONE THOUGHT AND THEN CONTRADICTED YOURSELF IN THE NEXT SENTENCE. HOW BATSHIT CAN YOU FEMINISTS BE?!?
And this is the article you feminists are upholding as scientific evidence?
Nobody wants to be portrayed as the “Joke Police”, and we don’t claim to either (as we lack the discipline and racial profiling techniques necessary to be policemen).
Translation: We don’t want to be CALLED the joke police, but we totally want to police your free speech to what offends us. We’d do it regardless of being called the joke police if we knew enough about black people, but #solidarityisforwhitewomen
Nevertheless, we view the purpose of comedy is two-fold: provide entertainment and promote the betterment of society.
Therein lies the problem. Feminists are looking for social commentary in jokes the same way they are in videogames. Stop. STAHP. If it’s not satire or created for the specific purpose of making a point, stop trying to find a hidden one. You will do things like call sexy sexist every time.
In essence, saying “it’s just a joke” allows comedians to de-commit from owning their opinion, and allows a person to hide their prejudices behind a “well-structured” joke.
Wow, this sounds a lot like NAFALT!
Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists promoting the idea that trans*women are gender traitors?
A OK! 8D
Male Tears/Misandry merchandise being sold and worn/use proudly?
Nothing to say about that! :)
Kill all men?
It’s just a joke calm down, geeeeeez.-.-
Ok, then feminism is a hate movement…
NAFALT NAFALT NAFALT!!! DON’T CALL US WOMYN!! HERE LOOK AT THIS DEFINITION FOR THE HUNDREDTH THOUSAND TIME!! THIS!! THIS IS WHAT FEMINISM IS ABOUT!!
The good news is that though comedy promotes rape-normal attitudes in audiences, these attitudes are very labile. So, if a comedian decided to keep telling a rape joke, they can still prevent rape culture by saying, “Yeah, that’s a messed up joke.”
So offensive jokes are ok as long as comedians remember that the world is full of adults who are not really adults as we have come to know them. They are weak willed and putty minded idiots who can have their belief systems restructured by saying “that last thing I said was bad”.
I think you are confusing the rest of the world with feminists that don’t want to have any accountability for their actions and want the privilege of freedom without the burden of responsibility.
Ultimately, we can’t just open up a Match and Gasoline store and not imagine that some of our customers might be arsonists.
This is in reference to their opening analogy about running a business and selling those items only to discover having some people who buy your products commit arson, which is a shitty analogy for any point they were trying to make about rape and rape jokes. This is the same kind of absurd thinking that “Teach Men Not to Rape” and ‘More Gun laws = less gun crime.’ comes from.
No rapist is sitting on the threshold of ‘to rape or not to rape’ when they suddenly remember that one time Daniel Tosh told a rape joke and decide to go through with it. This would void the other idiotic concept that rape is about power anyway, so there’s another hole in this terrible idea.
No sane person’s morals are so easily reconfigured that jokes can be a trigger for changing their entire mentality. If this was the case, we’d have a lot more feminists in kitchens, trying to make sandwiches in the dark as they struggle with a five person team to change a light bulb.
So no, rape jokes don’t cause rape. Stop trying to make this a thing. Stop trying to censor free speech because things upset you. If you don’t like what a comedian says or does, the most effective thing you can do is campaign not to support them. Don’t go to their shows, don’t buy their DVDs, tell your friends to do the same, but don’t try to pass this pseudo-science+feels off as something credible that intelligent people should accept as a truth.
It shouldn’t need to be said, but you don’t need feminism for rape jokes. I thought about ending this a picture of Daniel Tosh listening to blurred lines, but then I remembered I had some feminist rape jokes saved. Apologies in advance to any of you that instantly become rapists after this post.
Welp, so much for the “rape jokes cause rape” thing.
